Description
Sunrise on the Salmon
Idaho Journey Landscape Photography by Kaylyn Franks
This stunning image was captured during an early morning sunrise on the Salmon River while two steelhead fly fisherman wait patiently for the "tug" of the mighty steelhead trout.
"The steelhead (sometimes called "steelhead trout") is an anadromous (sea-run) form of the coastal rainbow trout (O. m. irideus) or Columbia River redband trout (O. m. gairdneri) that usually returns to fresh water to spawn after living two to three years in the ocean." wikipedia.com
The Steelhead will navigate 900 miles from the Pacific Ocean to the headwaters of the Salmon River northwest of Salmon, Idaho to spawn and create the next generation to continue the cycle of the anadromous fish.
