The Hells Canyon Dam project on the Snake River in Western Idaho includes three different dams built and operated by Idaho Power Company. The first dam in the project is Brownlee Dam, the second is Oxbow Dam and the third is Hells Canyon Dam. The tailwater from Oxbow Dam turns green in late July because of the algae which grows in the shallow depths. The tailwater creates a stark contrast with the rocky and dry vegetation of the Hells Canyon walls.
